Tier 4: How ForwardMotion Services are Affected

Published: 05/11/20

As the nation winds down for Christmas, Essex and the South East enters another lockdown tier. This means that ForwardMotion services will revert to online services only for the time being. You can view the latest updates on ForwardMotion services by revisiting this page or following ForwardMotion on social media. For information on what Tier 4 means in general, check out the government’s latest guidance here.

Travel Engagement

The ForwardMotion Travel Engagement team will be working with public transport providers such as c2c and local educational establishments to help inform people on essential travel and COVID safety measures onboard trains. The Travel Engagement team will be reaching out digitally to help students in any way possible, including offering videos, presentations, and live chats to schools and colleges throughout South Essex in the new year.

ForwardMotion also has free Public Transport Kits available to help make the commutes of pupils and front-line workers as stress-free as possible and helping passengers to adhere to onboard rules. Kits include bottles, hand sanitiser, face coverings and information on how ForwardMotion can help you optimise your commute.

Personalised Travel Plans (PTPs) are still on offer from the team and can be accompanied by a video call to discuss your travel options. These plans are tailored to suit your regular commute and help you arrive at your destination through more active and sustainable modes of transport. Get in touch to discuss your plan or submit your PTP details online.

The team are also now hosting drop-in sessions online every Tuesday and Friday for those who would like to chat about their essential travel options at this time.

Cycle Training and Services

Unfortunately, Bikeability and other cycle training will not be available as long as Essex remains in Tier 4, but there are plenty of ForwardMotion cycling videos online such as:

For more videos head to ForwardMotion’s YouTube channel for even more videos, including how to fix your bike at home and a six-part series on the ‘Guide to the Perfect Ride’.

The Bike Loan Scheme will still run during the lockdown, but although new applicants to the scheme can still be processed, there is a short waiting list. This is a legacy from the previous lockdown, as increasingly more people took up cycling and extended their rental periods on the scheme. Get in touch now to reserve a space on the Bike Loan Scheme waiting list to make sure you don’t miss out.

Additionally, ParkThatBike is still in operation to help with installing free cycle parking for your business or organisation. All bookings are subject to availability, so talk to your employer about free cycle parking or get in touch with ForwardMotion today.

Cycle Hubs

The Cycle Hub Thurrock located in Tilbury will be open to the public throughout lockdown, but only 1 customer will be permitted in the store at any time and all visitors must wear a mask or face covering. The Cycle Hubs team will still be operating as usual refurbishing, mending and selling bikes around the clock, but face-to-face contact with the team will be limited and must adhere to social distancing guidelines. The ForwardMotion Cycle Hubs Facebook shop will be updated daily to display available bikes for sale. Payment will be taken over the phone with delivery available throughout South Essex. You can view Christmas opening times on the Cycle hubs page.

The Cycle Hub Mobile will not be appearing at outdoor markets throughout lockdown due to closures during Tier 4. You can view more information on the ForwardMotion Cycle Hubs by visiting the main Cycle Hubs page.
The decision to remain open falls in line with The Health Protection Regulations report from Public Health England, released earlier this week.

ForwardMotion is dedicated to helping residents in South Essex actively, sustainably, and as safely as possible under the new restrictions. If you have any further questions about our services or concerns about your commute, don’t hesitate to contact the ForwardMotion team.
