How the ForwardMotion Mobile Cycle Hub is serving South Essex

Three of the most common questions I am asked as manager of ForwardMotion’s Mobile Cycle Hub are: what is it, what do you do and can I have two teas, please? I will quickly make it quite clear we’re not a refreshments van (we would probably do a roaring trade if we were). What we are is a mobile cycle hub, offering bike maintenance, checks, minor repairs and the chance for people to buy or recycle a new or reconditioned bike. Our aim is to enable people who live or work in south Essex to be able to travel by bike.

So what exactly is the Mobile Cycle Hub?

Picture a motorhome or mobile library, now picture a small family-run bike shop, where customer service is key. If you blend the two images together you’ll be getting close to the Cycle Hub Mobile. My vision at the outset was to have a professional mobile workshop, complete with workbench, full toolkit and the most common parts, as well as having a fully accessible office with the capability to set up as an outdoor workspace and sales area at any event we attend.

Dreams do come true and now not only do we have an amazing workspace at our disposal, but we also have a team of passionate and experienced mechanics working at the hub who can help repair bikes in need of a quick fix. Everyone who visits our Mobile Cycle Hub or Cycle Hub Thurrock in Tilbury instantly feels at home and knows they are in safe hands dealing with our trained mechanics.

At both the Mobile Cycle Hub and Cycle Hub Thurrock, people can buy new and refurbished adult and children’s bikes, as well as parts and accessories. We can also take any unwanted bikes off people’s hands too.

Where can you find us?

Our Mobile Cycle Hub can be found at Basildon Market every Wednesday, Southend High Street Market every Thursday and Leigh Farmers’ Market on the third Friday of each month. We also regularly travel to events, workplaces, colleges and training centres.

If you’d be interested in a visit from the hub or want to find out more about what we do, please get in touch, or check out our Cycle Hubs Homepage.

Or if you want to stay updated via social media, give us a follow to be the first to know about what we’re up to at the hubs:

If you see the Cycle Hub Mobile out and about, do come over to say hello and ask any questions you have, We might not be able to serve you two teas, but we can offer a whole lot more.
