ForwardMotion’s Bike Loan Scheme for Key Workers

Published: 27/03/20

During this coronavirus outbreak, we are continuing to work with our providers across south Essex to deliver services that support people, whether that is helping key workers get to work or providing advice for people who want to cycle or walk for exercise.

Active Cycling Projects, who run our bike loan scheme, have made the following changes to the service in line with social distancing measures:

  • They are only issuing new bike loans to key workers to help them get to and from work. They are able to maintain appropriate distance from the participant when delivering bikes, and use disposable gloves and antibacterial gel for hand washing before and after delivery.
  • If an existing scheme participant has a problem with their bike, they will try to resolve the issue remotely. If this is not possible, they will visit the participant, who must leave the bike in an accessible place for any repair. They will leave it for the participant to take back afterwards. The same procedures of using disposable gloves and hand washing are undertaken.
  • People coming to the end of their 6 months’ loan are being given the opportunity to return bikes in the same way as set out for bike repair in the bullet above. If participants want to buy them, Active Cycling Projects are offering the option to delay payments by 3 months.

We hope  these changes will help key workers travel by bike.
