A special liveried bus is hitting the roads of south Essex to promote Southend as a visitor destination and encourage people to use public transport.

The new Arriva bus– which bears the old Southend Transport livery –promotes the Visit Southend website on its sides and ForwardMotion on the back.

Unveiled at the Southend Christmas lights switch-on, it is now attending events across south Essex in addition to running regular bus routes, so make sure you look out for it.

Launch of the bus coincides with our Festive Travel challenge, which encourages residents around south Essex to try travelling by public transport. If you swap just one car journey for a trip by bus or rail in December, you could be in with the chance of winning a ÂŁ250 prize. All you need to do is tell us about your journey by emailing hello@forwardmotionsouthessex.co.uk or tagging us on social media with the hashtag #FestiveTravel. You will then be sent a link to a short survey so we can collect your details and enter you into the grand prize draw.

Scott Dolling from Southend-on-Sea Borough Council said: “As the festive shopping period comes into full swing, it is wonderful to see Arriva supporting both our local visitor economy at a time that is critical for local businesses.

Graham Wykes, general manager for Arriva Southend, said: “Sustainable travel is a key focus for us at Arriva and we should all be doing a little bit more to reduce the number of cars on the road, particularly in high footfall areas. Using public transport is a brilliant way to reduce our impact on the environment and we’re proud to be part of a project that raises awareness of sustainable travel in the area.”
