Cycling in Southend is very pleasant and easy, since the area is quite flat with a couple of great off-road cycle routes.
The seafront route between Chalkwell beach and Shoebury East beach is very good for those cycling to Southend town centre, as it is completely segregated from the traffic. It can be joined at any location along the route, and there is one section as you go through the centre of Southend (City Beach) where the promenade is shared with other pedestrians.
Another good route for cyclists is the Prittle Brook Greenway, which runs from the south entrance of Belfairs Park to Priory Park. This route follows the brook along a green route away from the highway but does cross several roads. It takes approximately 45 minutes to cycle the whole route.
The Queensway route takes you from the west of town all the way down to City Beach.
ForwardMotion will be launching a cycle parking map of South Essex.
