DST

DST is a leading provider of specialised technology, strategic advisory, and business operations outsourcing to the financial and healthcare industries. DST employs around 5,000 people across 12 locations in the UK and Ireland.

South Essex Active Travel presented at the Basildon Business Group meeting in March hosted by DST at their Head Office in Basildon. After the meeting, we were approached by their Head of Facilities Management and invited to come along and promote our active travel initiatives.

Engagement

We attended DST in May 2018 to engage with existing staff regarding their travel choices.

We spoke with 130 staff regarding travel. Of these, 58 completed Personal Travel Plans.

To encourage additional interest, we took along our ever-popular smoothie bike, meaning staff members were able to have a go at generating enough energy by pedaling to work the smoothie machine to create a healthy fruit drink! Many discussions around fitness, health and wellbeing were had.

Of the 58 travel plans completed, nine staff signed up to cycle training and 25 took part in simply stride walking initiatives. Two ladies have swapped to the bus with many more looking to bus, cycling and walking as a future option.
